Rajasthan is the largest state in India by area and is known for its vast desert landscapes, Aravalli hills, plateaus, historic forts, princely heritage, and diverse cultural traditions. The modern state of Rajasthan came into existence through a phased integration of princely states between 1948 and 1956, and 30 March 1949 is widely observed as Rajasthan Day, marking the foundation of the state in its integrated form.
According to the Census of India 2011, Rajasthan had a total population of 68,548,437. Under the 2011 Census administrative structure, the state had:
- Total Districts: 33
- Total Sub-districts (Tehsils): 244
- Total Community Development Blocks: 295
- Total Villages: 44,672
These administrative divisions are important for preparing and using SOI shapefiles, especially for district, tehsil, and village-level GIS work. Rajasthan is widely used in geospatial analysis for studies related to desertification, drought assessment, land use and land cover, watershed management, groundwater studies, agriculture, rural development, tourism, and regional planning. Because of its vast area and environmental diversity, accurate administrative boundary shapefiles are especially useful for GIS mapping, census analysis, and remote sensing applications.
