Chhattisgarh is an important state in central India, known for its plateau and forested landscapes, rich mineral resources, tribal population, river basins, and agricultural plains. The state was carved out of Madhya Pradesh and officially came into existence on 1 November 2000. Chhattisgarh is especially significant in studies related to tribal geography, forest resources, mining regions, watershed analysis, land use and land cover, regional development, and disaster management. The official Census 2011 administrative map and district handbooks are widely used as reference sources for GIS-based boundary preparation.

According to the Census of India 2011, Chhattisgarh had a total population of 25,545,198. Under the 2011 Census administrative structure, the state had:

  • Total Districts: 18
  • Total Sub-districts (Tehsils): 149
  • Total Community Development Blocks: 149
  • Total Villages: 20,133
  • Total Urban Areas: 189

These administrative divisions are important for preparing and using SOI shapefiles, especially for district, tehsil, and village-level GIS work.
